S-League Week 9 Preview

Harimau MudaAfter seven games, Harimau Muda’s unbeaten streak ended at the hands of Home United, who secured a 2-1 win with Frederic Mendy scoring the winner on the hour mark. The Protectors will be having an off day in this week’s fixtures while the Malaysian side will take on Woodlands Wellington at Yishun Stadium on Sunday. The Rams will be hoping for Moon Soon Ho to continue his fine goal scoring form. His two goals against SAF last week almost got his team the three points only for SAF to come back each time after he scored to share the spoils. SAF will be away to Balestier Khalsa at Toa Payoh Stadium on Thursday, with both teams having contrasting fortunes in the season so far. Lying in an unfamiliar eighth position, the Warriors will be looking to kick start their disappointing season so far with only two wins in seven games. They don’t seem to have a problem scoring, as they are joint second highest scoring club, just behind home United. But they do have some concerns at the back, where they have conceded as many as they scored, and only Geylang United have conceded more. The Tigers on the other hand, are on a high in third position with four wins, three draws and a loss in eight matches, scoring nine goals and conceding six. They will be welcoming Syed Thaha back from suspension, as they look to keep their unbeaten home record intact.

A motivational talk for the Courts Young Lions was conducted by former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, who was in town over the weekend and we shall see if Robin Chitrakar’s boys had been motivated enough to get a win over Geylang United in this week’s featured S-League match that will be telecast “LIVE” on Starhub Ch 201 (Supersports Arena). The Eagles will hope to get their act together, as their performances have not been ideal so far. Coach V.Kanan took over the reins from Mike Wong after a dismal start, and he will be keen to secure a victory over the Courts Young Lions who is on a six game winless run. A player to look out for is Geylang’s nippy winger, Ang Zhiwei, who have impressed so far in his full-debut season. Nicknamed “Chilli Padi” by the fans, he will be hoping to score his first goal for his club soon. Tampines Rovers will be counting on the evergreen Aleksandar Duric to grab the goals against Gombak United on Sunday, who secured a hard fought 2-1 win over Hougang United last weekend.

Jordan skips past FaritzAfter an impressive opening run of three wins in three matches, the Cheetahs from Hougang will be facing an out of sorts Albirex Niigata at Hougang Stadium on Friday. The White Swans have not managed to win any of their last four matches and looks for a win soon to get their season back on track while Hougang will be hoping for the talismanic Jordan Webb to score yet again as they have not lost a single game when he gets on the score sheet.

In Bandar Seri Bengawan on friday, Brunei DPMM, the only unbeaten team in the league will be looking to extend their lead at the top with a win over Tanjong Pagar United.
